Projects
Sawdust and Sand

Sawdust and Sand showcases the talent of wood artist, James Leach. The website was originally begun as a do-it-yourself project using a website building program, with a Wordpress blog added for promotion. Because of the need to be able to revise and update pages displaying new products and removing items sold, it was apparent a different format was needed. After consulting, it was decided to move the entire apparatus to being managed through the Wordpress system. Not only can content be updated more quickly and easily, but the site is more uniform in design.
This is a complete customization of an existing theme, with the header image being replaced by a photograph taken by Jim on the beach near his home in Hawaii. The background color was changed to reflect the original feel and design, but the products take center stage in this design, through the addition of a gallery slideshow.
This theme also features two custom template pages, a no-sidebar template which allows increased room for displaying of products, and a category filter to ease updating of products into single categories. Also included are an Events Calendar to track craft shows where Jim will be appearing, a Paypal button through which he can receive credit card payments, and a subscription tool in which visitors can subscribe to receive product updates as well as blog postings.
Apple Tree Web Designs

Apple Tree Web Designs is a completely custom design. The header image is a custom pencil, with just a touch of color. The sleek white design was chosen to emphasize the content of the portfolio. An image rotator displays the most recent work at the bottom of the page, while an added page template filters content according to category, allowing for ease of updating specific pages or categories.
Valley Birth Network

The Valley Birth Network website uses lots of attractive stock photographs to add visual interest, as well as personal photos to personalize the content. This theme customization included adding images to the header, and installing Contact Forms, an Events Calendar and an ability for the visitor to subscribe to updates via email.
More Babies Prefer Home Birth

More Babies Prefer Home Birth was designed around the Tumblr system, which was chosen to make updating extremely easy by adding a button tool to the users existing web browser. For this particular purpose, many pages were unnecessary. This site uses an existing Tumblr theme with customized colors. Existing art from the organization was combined with a stylized font to create a fresh, homey and happy feel.
Birthwise Health & Birth Center

The BirthWise website is a customization of an available theme in the Wordpress directory. To personalize this theme, a custom header image replaced the theme’s default image, colors were adjusted to coordinate with the Birth Center’s existing color scheme, and details like font styles, text and link colors and so on, were included. Because of the ease of maintaining a site managed by Wordpress’s open source software, the site is now fully maintained by BirthWise staff.
